Thirumayam
Thirumayam ist ein magischer Ort, etwa 19 km entfernt von Pudukkottai. Die Hauptattraktionen dieses kleinen Ortes sind das Fort und die beiden, Shiva und Vishnu geweihten, Felstempel.
Das Fort wurde 1687 von Sethupathi Vijaya Ragunatha Thevar den Sethupathi of Ramanathapuram gebaut. Während des Zweiten Weltkrieges wurde das Fort als Arsenal von der britischen Armee benutzt. In den beiden malerischen Felstempeln waren alle Priester absolut entspannt, freundlich und offen. Welch ein Unterschied zu den touristisch stärker frequentierten Tempeln. Beide Tempel integrieren den Fels in die Architektur, besonders eindrucksvoll ist dies im Vishnu Tempel, welcher die größte Anantasayi Gruppe Indiens besitzt.
